Notes from October 2, 2019 Meeting
Dear Everybody,
We had two contributors to the monthly raffle – Judy Haenel and Lupe Encinas – so it was twice as much fun. Thanks to you both. We directed the funds to Brooke Schiavone for baby girl Leena’s dance scholarship. We hope that $76 picks up a little bit of the load for Brooke, our favorite dance mom.
Lupe Encinas was the speaker today, and she gave us a snapshot of how she and Nacho launched Goodies Glass. They were impossibly young, but extremely hard-working – sort of like they still are. Lupe remarked that once upon a time they were tickled to get five jobs a week. Now they get 17 or 18 a day. The primary focus of Goodies Glass is two-fold: quality and safety. Lupe emphasized that they spend more on materials to ensure that their customers are taken care of. She revealed that companies giving incentives to replace a windshield cut back on the quality of the materials they use in order to afford the cash-back offers. She said to make sure that, no matter who is installing your windshield, the technician is wearing gloves to keep from contaminating the materials being used, which can cause a negative chemical reaction. Lupe also assured us that she and Nacho keep up with research and development in the industry, and always adhere to manufacturers’ standards when replacing a windshield. Several members gave impromptu testimonials as to the great service Lupe and Nacho offer, and the high quality of the work they do. Lupe also passed out sunscreens and pens, which were gladly carried away by all of us because we love getting treats early in the morning.
So, thanks Lupe! We enjoyed your presentation and the raffle prizes. And thanks, Judy! Your raffle prizes always cause a bit of a stir.
Marie DeAngelis followed up our discussion last week about beneficiary deeds. A check for $18 can be sent to the Maricopa County Record’s Office, 111 S. Third Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85003 along with the proper form. The website is www.recorder.maricopa.gov. The phone is 602-506-3535. To remind you of the gist of our previous discussion, a beneficiary deed can keep your house out of probate when you die, which is a bonus for your heirs. Cars, boats, and other kinds of property do not fall into this category, so they (heirs) will have to deal with those items separately. However, the house can be thrown clear of probate. And your kids can punch it out over the boat.
Brooke reminded us that Z’s Fine Jewelry is introducing their newest line from London designer Ania Haie. There is a product premiere on Saturday, October 19, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Stop in and make up your wish list. Z’s is located at 7547 W. Greenway Rd., Suite 580, Peoria, AZ 85381.
Finally, you are cordially invited to the open house being held by Valley View Community Food Bank at their new location, 107th Ave. and Peoria, on the southwest corner, right by the bank. The open house will be Saturday, October 12 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Please come and see the new quarters. And remember – if you know of somebody who isn’t getting enough to eat, send them to the food bank. The new location is on the bus line, and is kitty corner from the recreation center in Sun City.
Have a great rest of the week, a safe and happy weekend, and we will see you next week.
Best wishes,
Jody Serey
