Notes from March 20, 2019 Meeting
Dear Everybody,
We had a good meeting with lots of information. Spring break took a couple members out of town, and we hope they are enjoying their days off with their children. Or, without them, as the case may be.
Discussions ran the gamut and reflected the remarkable and varied knowledge resources represented by our membership. Marie DeAngelis described scams involving the elderly that she sees evidence of at the bank. We hope that she will give a presentation to the group soon as to what to watch for, since all of us either know seniors, are seniors, or hope to become seniors someday.
Natalie Stahl, in her role as writer, talked about the effectiveness of social media. Natalie’s posts on @NatalieStahlWriter (Facebook) are widely shared. Natalie’s first book is due out very soon. SereyJones Publishers, Inc. is her proud publisher.
Please make sure that if you are on social media that you “friend” each other. It will give you greater exposure very quickly.
Robin McCombs told us that her company recently participated in a project for the James Walton Home. The organization states that “Our mission is to have every homeless veteran gain back their pride and dignity so that they can return to society as a self-sufficient and productive member once again.” Robin said her company made sure that the AC was top notch and keeping the veterans cool after a major kaput of the old system. Robin is a veteran, and expends a lot of energy helping other veterans.
Robin also brought a gift card to Lupe Encinas, who won it through the raffle sponsored by the Southwest Veterans Chamber of Commerce. We also decided that since Lupe wins often, we should have her purchase our lottery tickets since none of us seem to be retiring any time soon on our winnings.
Cathy and Justin Smitch volunteer monthly for the Sons of the American Legion chicken fried steak dinner. On April 3 from 5 until 7, the Sons of the American Legion will be joining Modern Woodmen and Susan Riedel for the event. For $7 per attendee, each diner will get a complete chicken fried steak dinner (chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, country gravy, corn or green beans, pineapple, and a roll). The address is 9847 W. Desert Cove Avenue, Peoria, AZ. For more information, contact Susan Riedel at 602-978-1005.
Wendy Terrell said that the prom dress boutique was successful, and now the challenge is where to store the extra dresses until next year. She and her business partner do plan to host the event again. If anybody has any bright ideas for storage options, let Wendy know.
We talked about dues. It was decided that we would start the dues tally from January 1, 2019. Therefore, this is the first quarter of the year and can be caught up with. The second quarter begins in April. Our dues are $25 per quarter or $100 per year. Marie said she will be happy to take cash or checks to the bank. Natalie will keep a record of payments.
All agendas are posted on the website the week of each meeting. And notes from every meeting are kept permanently on the website. Any sensitive information (there hasn’t been any so far) will be redacted before being posted publicly.
We have a wonderful group of women, which is why the group has been meeting for 28 years without an “owner” or a national office telling us what to do. We are the essence of what networking is supposed to do. I hope we keep doing it for a long time.
Have a great rest of the week.
