Notes from January 9, 2019 Meeting

Dear Everybody,

We were glad to see each other after our holiday recess. It was especially reassuring to see Audrey again, after her bout with whooping cough.

Michelle gave us the bittersweet news that she has been transferred downtown (wonderful for her and her family) and will not be able to be with us regularly on Wednesdays (very sad for us who like her so much). However, she has promised to stay in touch, handle our banking personally, and send us a representative to fill her spot.

The 50/50 raffle raised $61, and was won by Michelle. Because the raffle was to benefit the 100 Club, Michelle donated her portion of the proceeds to the 100 Club. Thanks, Michelle! We will miss seeing you and enjoying your presence.

Ami Fraus of Wise “A” Creations was our member speaker, and provided us with a look at both her life and her work. She has had a long and varied career, which included years in the car rental business at Budget and brought her into the orbit of her husband, Terry. Ami has also been a stewardess, and worked for House of Fabrics which became Jo Ann’s. Her skills as a seamstress are self-taught, but she tackles a vast array of projects. She is especially fond of assisting with wedding apparel and accoutrements. Ami works by referral only these days, and for select clients. She ended her presentation with the advice to avoid fabric softener sheets unless you are using them to repel mosquitoes, to zip zippers and button buttons before you wash a garment, and to unstick a stuck zipper with a bar of soap.

The upcoming January newsletter, which focuses on services available for weddings and couples being married, has a material submission deadline of January 18. To submit content to be included, email Jody Serey at [email protected]. Pictures are welcome, and your side businesses are also welcome. If you need help creating text, just ask.

Happy birthday tomorrow (January 10) to Beth Deemer!

Have a great rest of the week.
